Landbase Maintenance for a Large US Telecom Company
Landbase Maintenance for a Large US Telecom Company
Business Overview
To enable comprehensive network planning and maintenance, a major U.S. telecom operator required highly accurate landbase and street-centerline data across California and Nevada. The project involved managing an extensive digital landbase ecosystem spanning both states. Our GIS team designed and deployed an enterprise geodatabase along with custom tools and applications to efficiently manage and maintain more than 12 million parcels, 507,000 linear miles of streets, and numerous additional feature classes. The resulting parcel fabric remains the only truly seamless landbase covering all 75 counties in California and Nevada
Challenge
The telecom company had to deal with fragmented data that came from several county tax rolls, each of which had its own formats, update cycles, and structure. Operational and technological concerns included maintaining data accuracy and guaranteeing timely updates for planning, deployment, and right-of-way (ROW) management. They also needed a centralized platform to make this enriched landbase accessible to internal and commercial users.
Solution
The GIS team at NeST Digital developed an end-to-end landbase maintenance and enhancement solution:
- Unified Data Integration: Built an application to import and standardize parcel and tax-roll data from multiple counties into a common database structure.
- Landbase & ROW Management: Managed and updated parcel datasets and right-of-way information to support accurate network planning and infrastructure maintenance.
- Commercial Land Information Portal: Designed and deployed a commercial-grade portal enabling the client to deliver curated landbase datasets to end users, improving accessibility and usability.
Impact
- High-Accuracy Planning: Provided precise landbase data, which improved the decision-making for telecom network expansion and maintenance.
- Operational Efficiency: Streamlined ingestion and consolidation, significantly reducing manual effort.
- Revenue Enablement: The commercial portal allowed the telecom company to offer landbase datasets to external users, unlocking new business opportunities.
- Improved Infrastructure Management: Accelerated maintenance workflows and minimized planning errors.
